Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said on Sunday that Sindh produced more per acre wheat as compared to Punjab province.
“Despite Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s opposition Sindh government increased support price of wheat in the province,” Shah said at inaugural of Famers Festival and National Conference organised by Sindh Agriculture University of Tando Jam at its Khairpur College of Agriculture Engineering and Technology (KCAET) . He said that during Arbab Rahim’s tenure as CM, Punjab government refused to give surplus wheat to Sindh government.
He urged local businessmen of Khairpur district to set-up more industry in the city.
“Khairpur Agriculture Engineering College will help growers and farmers to do more research on agro business industry,” he said adding that economic zone was already setup in the district with the object to setup more industries to boost small entrepreneurs as well as livestock industry. Of over 40 stalls, Mr. Shah visited the agriculture university’s food and science and technology stall and appreciated the efforts for organising farmers festival and national conference on agriculture and livestock to impart farmers new technology in agribusiness sector. The Vice Chancellor said that Sindh province had huge potential in agriculture sector. He said that alongside date crop, strawberry and banana crops were also cultivated in the district.
Progressive farmer Ghulam Qasim Jiskani demanded of the CM to setup more wheat centre in Khairpur. He asked him to expedite work on date research project. Nabi Bux Jamro, agriculture scientist , Mushtaq Soomro from Agriculture Extension department and Mohammad Yousaf gave various suggestions to enhance cash crops and paddy crops in the technical session of the conference. They also suggested enhancement of quality of date farming and its marketing for earning more revenue as per international market standard.
