We feel pleasure to share with you that Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam and International Labour Organization (ILO) are jointly organizing a Seminar on mark the “THE WORLD WATER DAY (BETTER WATER, BETTER JOBS)’ at the Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam on Tuesday, March 22, 2016.
In 1993, the United Nations General Assembly designated 22 March as the first World Water Day, and it is marked every year on the same date. It seeks to place water and sanitation as top issues. It is an UN-wide event, including civil society actors working to promote better planning and better management of the Water resources for our better future. It also gathers a good amount of media attention. The UN-Water Technical Advisory unit has provided technical support to the organizers of this event in Pakistan.
On this occasion, the Sindh Agriculture University in close collaboration with the ILO and also in close consultation with One UN partners and the ILO constituents would arrange a seminar with the dual purpose of widely communicating the “water and jobs link‟ also celebrating the WWD as part of the regional and global celebrations. An important follow-up action of the seminar is envisaged as “inclusion of a chapter in Agriculture Policy on the topic of water & Jobs”. FAO, ILO, UN-Women and the Sindh government functionaries, think tanks and the experts on the subject will speak during the seminar on the importance of the topic in the specific context of the Sindh province. The One-UN agencies (FAO, ILO and UN-Women) will bring in good practices and the lessons learn from their working on the Water & Jobs link during the implementation of the One-UN project titled “Livelihood Restoration, Project and sustainable empowerment of vulnerable peasant communities in the Sindh Province‟.
You are invited to participate in this Event of high significance to all the stakeholders. We would appreciate your acceptance to this invitation and hope you will grace the occasion. Your participation will be a source of encouragement for all of us. A copy of the Program of the Event is enclosed for your information.
